Innovation Is Happening

The Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park (IQMP) is a 128-acre+ specialized technology campus under development in Chicago, slated to host America’s first utility-scale, error-corrected quantum computer. Anchored by startup PsiQuantum, it brings together academia, government, and industry to commercialize quantum technology, aiming to create a global hub for innovation.

Significance of the Quantum Park:

  • Technological Advancement: It aims to build a "million-qubit" utility-scale quantum computer, which, unlike current experimental quantum devices, is designed to solve complex, real-world problems in medicine, material science, and clean energy.

  • Economic Impact: The project is projected to generate billions in economic impact and create high-tech jobs on the site of a former, long-abandoned U.S. Steel South Works site.

  • Midwest Tech Hub: By establishing this facility, Illinois is positioning itself as a major competitor to traditional technology centers like Silicon Valley in the quantum race.

  • Public-Private Partnership: The initiative is backed by the state of Illinois, Cook County, IBM, and major research universities, showcasing a strong collaborative effort toward future technology.
